I do my manicuring at a certain saloon I prefer going to for everything, there are 2 different manicurists there that usually treat me.

After manicuring and pedicuring, I’ve noticed two things:

1) The skin around my nails kills me from pain for a approx a week (even though I ask them not to over cut/shape the nails).

2) The skin on the nails (which they clean out) comes back so shortly after (a few days).

Question:

Is this what manicuring and pedicuring is about, or am I just letting an unprofessional do it for me?
If cutting cuticles is not healthy, then how do we get rid of them and make our nails look nicer?

How about facials and massages? How much do you tip each individual person and all together if it’s one person doing all the work (except haircut, I don’t expect one person to do all that)? I’m in CA, is it different in other states or with different cultures?
